Life on Earth depends on soils! Soil is a living system, home to a fascinating range of plants and animals whose magical interaction ensures human well-being and that of the planet. Soils play many functions from providing clean water, habitats for biodiversity, slow effects of climate change while preserving cultural heritage and providing unique landscapes.
Often these benefits are taken for granted and as such soils are often neglected. The intensification of agriculture and the consequent intensive use of soils has left a legacy on soil health, seriously impairing soil quality. For example, inappropriate or unsustainable use of soil ad how we deal with our waste is affecting soil health that can no longer perform its vital functions.
We need to act now! It is essential to reverse these effects. We need to ensure more sustainable ways of preserving natural assets, especially those as crucial as soil fertility and soil life.
In line with the EU mission “Caring for Soils is Caring for Life” these webinar series aim to raise awareness of what soils in fact are, how they can be managed and the effects once they are neglected. The goal is to put the primary system towards sustainable land and healthier soils. The European goal is ambitious:
By 2030, to have at least 75% of all soils in each Member State healthy and able to provide essential services for communities!
With the involvement of all we will leave healthier soils to future generations
This webinar offers you a roadmap to learn more about what soils can do for you.
