PeelPioneers offers a solution to the orange peels that are left over after fresh juice is made.
They call themselves the “peel farmers of the 21st century”. PeelPioneers offers a circular solution for orange peels, which means no orange remains unused. It processes orange peels, which would otherwise be incinerated as waste, into functional ingredients for the food industry.
The company was founded in 2017 by Lindy Hensen, Bas van Wieringen and Sytze van Stempvoort and opened the world’s first orange peel plant in 2018 in Son, the Netherlands, where more than 10 million kilograms of peels are processed per year. PeelPioneers is growing very fast and is the market leader in the Netherlands. PeelPioneers plans to expand into Europe with five new peel factories in the coming years.
Thanks to the local production of high-quality food ingredients, they no longer depend on seasonal oranges or transport from outside Europe. In this way, Peel Pioneers contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
The consumer can therefore continue to drink their fresh juice without worry, because there is a local and sustainable solution for the remaining citrus peel.
