Raúl Ortega is a Doctor in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry from the University of Almería (UAL). He has carried out his research work at the UAL and at Universities in the United Kingdom and Belgium.

He is currently responsible for the Soil Microbiology laboratory of the Center for Research in Mediterranean Intensive Agrosystems and Agrifood Biotechnology (CIAIMBITAL) and a teacher and researcher in the Department of Agronomy of the UAL.

He is a researcher at the Andalusian research group RNM-934 (Agronomy and Environment) where he directs the Agronomy research line.
